Aggressive lines, an imposing hood scoop, a 263-horsepower, all-aluminum MZR 2.3L engine that cranks out 280 lb-ft of torque at 3,000 rpm., tested and track proven at the Nűrburgring Raceway in Germany and Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. These characteristics could only describe one vehicle – none other than the 2013 Mazdaspeed3, a car that was built to perform. The Mazdaspeed3 is currently Mazda’s sole offering from its tuning and performance division, Mazdaspeed.
The Mazdaspeed group originated as a grass roots racing team in Japan. It was taken over by Mazda in 1999, and by 2003 Mazda was offering the general public a chance to own one of their performance vehicles – the Mazdaspeed Protégé. While the Mazdaspeed group has rolled out a variety of models through the years, the Mazdaspeed3 was first introduced in 2007. By the way, when the Mazdaspeed3 became available on the market in 2003 it had the privilege as being the most powerful vehicle in its class. The end goal for every Mazdaspeed vehicle is to amplify all the areas that already make Mazda models stand out in their classes: Power, handling, driver connectivity, style and value.
The 2013 Mazdaspeed3 carries the Mazdaspeed tradition well, it is loaded with high performance technology, include a turbocharged, direct-injected engine with chain-driven dual overhead cams and variable intake-valve timing, a Warner-Hitachi K04 turbocharger and air-to-air intercooler, 4-wheel independent MacPherson strut front and E-type multilink rear suspension, and so much more. Stabilizer bars help keep the vehicle level in tight turns, while large 12.6-inch vented front rotors allow for better control when braking. Mate the engine to a standard 6-speed close-ratio short-throw manual gearbox and you have a perfect way to transfer pure turbocharged power to the pavement.
The Mazdaspeed3 also has the look to match the power. If you are looking for a model that simple demands attention while cruising down the road, you’ve found it. With bold curves and its five-point black grille, there’s no mistaking the Mazdaspeed3. From exclusive black painted accents, a sport-tuned dual exhaust system, heated side mirrors, a rear lower valence and inner spoiler, and wide-set 18-inch gunmetal alloy wheels the Mazdaspeed3 has the race-inspired look that it wants to go; this is no ordinary compact car. If you are the type that looks to stand out from the crows, then this may be the car you’ve been waiting for! Swing by your local PA Mazda dealer, Reedman Toll, to take a test drive and get a taste of the pure adrenaline that the Mazdaspeed3 will offer you.
Hop inside the Mazdaspeed3 and enjoy your music as it is delivered through an available 265-watt, 10-speaker Bose Centerpoint Surround Sound System. You can quickly connect your iPod or MP3 player with the standard USB audio input port, or select the available HD Radio, Pandora Internet radio connectivity and SiriusXM Satellite Radio. The Mazdaspeed3 also features AudioPilot, an ambient noise compensation technology; 7-channel custom dynamic equalization, and digital signal processing provide optimum sound clarity, depth and realism. And speaking of technology, the Mazdaspeed3 offers a first in safety technology for the compact class – an Adaptive Front-lighting System which pivots the headlight beam based on speed and steering angle to illuminate the curves ahead, while the available halogen fog lights help improve vision in inclement weather.
