The forthcoming model range of Jaguar will not include hybrid powertrains, the chief program engineer for XE has confirmed. While speaking to the media, Nick Miller said the brand is in no rush towards a hybridized future, especially in the market segment of medium-sized luxury cars. The Jaguar XE is the first model that comes with the new Ingenium engine fitted into its variants. It will have a 2.0L four-cylinder, diesel engine with fuel consumption of only 3.8L/100km.
The new engine is however capable of handling hybrid components, giving the British car manufacturer a second chance to consider making hybrid powertrains just like its key rivals Mercedes-Benz, BMW and Audi who have developed the Mercedes-Benz C300, the BMW ActiveHybrid 3 and Audi A4 respectively.
Steven De Ploey, brand director of Jaguar who was present at the New York Auto show last week said that the electrification of cars will take place around 2020. Referring to the Jaguar Land Rover for hybrid options, he said, “At JLR we already have Range Rover hybrid, diesel hybrid – but there’s more of these things to come. We’re investing heavily to make sure that we’re fully compliant – and competitive, because compliant is one thing that just allows you to sell, but it’s much more important from a customer point of view that you’re competitive”, CarAdvice reported.
Showcased last September in London, the Jaguar XE is expected to go on sale globally this year.
