Department of Public Safety initiative to provide resources to law enforcement agencies across the state. The grant will be used to hire a full-time school resource officer (SRO) for Sandy Run Elementary School, a school with a high number of students from low-income families. The SRO will be responsible for providing a safe and secure learning environment for students and staff, and will also work to build positive relationships with students and families. The grant will also be used to purchase and outfit a new vehicle for the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office. The new vehicle will be used for a variety of purposes, including transporting prisoners, responding to calls for service, and patrolling the county.

This funding will be used to upgrade existing technology and purchase new equipment. The council also approved a resolution that would allow the county to participate in a federal grant program for infrastructure improvements. This program, known as the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, offers funding for projects that improve public safety, transportation, and economic development.
