Volkswagen Unveils Three New Concepts for China's Electric Vehicle Market

Volkswagen unveiled three new electric vehicle concepts at the 2025 Shanghai motor show to regain its footing in China's EV market.

The ID. Era is a full-size three-row crossover designed for Volkswagen SAIC, with a range extended EV drivetrain and 300km of pure electric driving.

The ID. Era features subtle bulges and scallops on its side surfaces to prevent a slabby appearance.

The ID. Evo is a pure-electric crossover built on an 800V electrical platform, featuring zonal electronic architecture and over-the-air updates.

The ID. Evo boasts a sportier appearance with a rounder shape, gloss black lower body cladding, and Alfa-esque alloy wheels.

The ID. Aura is a compact crossover based on the Compact Main Platform (CMP) designed for the Chinese market, with a zonal electrical architecture and smartphone-like interface.

Volkswagen aims to regain its sales crown in China with 30 new cars launching by 2027, including 20 "new energy vehicles".

The ID. Era's design is reminiscent of a Range Rover Sport, while the ID. Evo's design is sleek and modern, with a focus on aerodynamics and efficiency.

Volkswagen's "In China, For China" strategy is focused on producing cars tailored to the Chinese market's preferences and needs.

The ID. Aura is pitched at the "price-conscious A-segment" and features plenty of AI computing power for automated driving and simplified interaction with the infotainment system.
