Volkswagen has been making quality cars since before the second world war, and while some of their earlier models might not have been the best, over the years they’re become a household name that everyone recognises and respects. Considering this, today we’re going to take a quick look at some of the most popular models ever made, and hopefully discuss a little about why each one has sold so well since reaching the market. Don’t get me wrong, this isn’t an extensive list, and there are many other VW models that have been bought by people all over the world. It’s just that the ones in this post have become the iconic designs most of us associate with this incredibly innovative manufacturer.

VW Campervan

While production ceased for a little while during the 1990’s, the VW campervan has been popular with people all over the world since it was first released in the 1960s. It doesn’t have as much space as you might expect from a motorhome or something similar, but it’s great for short weekends away or trips where an overnight stay is required. Many people buy these and keep them specifically for the summer months because there’s nothing like driving down to the beach, opening the sides up and relaxing with the kids. There are brilliant for young families, and the newer models are far more reliable than the older ones.

VW Beetle

When this model was first released, it was by far the most durable and dependable car in the world. Indeed, that’s why the German government promised one to each and every family in the country at the time. These days, those older editions tend to be a little too rattly for most people’s liking, but luckily the company started making new ones towards the end of the 1990s, so you can get stylish modern versions that offer the utmost of comfort. If you consider buying one of these at any time, just don’t put flowery stickers all over it like so many others, as that ruins the cool and slick design.

VW Golf

Companies similar to the Jardine Motors Group are been selling this model for VW for a long time, and they always fly off the forecourts. This is because they’re compact, comfortable and incredibly fast. You don’t even have to own the GTI models to feel the speed, although doing so will ensure you’re not disappointed. Since they were first released in the late 1980’s, Golfs have changed considerably, but they’re still one of the top cars of choice for young drivers who like to feel some pull when they put their foot down. Those who don’t want to spend so much money usually opt for the Polo, as this is the sister model. While it’s slightly less powerful and far less attractive, it comes in second place rather well.
