Cell Phone

The cell phone doesn’t take a genius to work out while driving is an overall bad idea. In all cases, it’s best avoided. That doesn’t mean it’s prohibited in all forms, though. There is a Cell Phone out there to allow you to talk while driving, and important safety measures you must know. Before you start gossiping with your friends while on the road, read these tips first.

It should be noted that it’s best to never use your phone while driving. While the following tips will make the experience safer, it’s more beneficial to refrain from phone usage altogether.

Check your Cell Phone  Before You Leave

We use our cell phones for all sorts of reasons these days. You might be using it as a music player to connect to your in-car stereo. Alternatively, you may even be using it as your GPS system to get you to your destination! The last thing you want to be doing is tinkering with those systems while you’re driving. Before you leave the driveway, make sure you’ve prepared everything you need. That way, you won’t have to worry about distracting yourself.

Use A Hands-Free Device

Let’s be clear about this: you shouldn’t be making a phone call with anyone while driving unless you’re doing so with a hands-free device. That said, there are types of these devices that still aren’t safe, so make sure you’re buying the right ones. Again, connect your phone to the device before you start driving. Anything that causes you to get distracted is extremely dangerous, and you can’t afford to let it happen.

Refrain From Emotional Conversations while Driving

While you can talk via hands-free devices, conversations have the power to distract you all on their own. This is especially the case if you’re in the middle of an argument or a particularly tough conversation. Your mental state will be one of anger/sadness/nervousness, and you’re not going to be concentrating on the road. There’s a huge difference between a quick, pleasant conversation and a mentally challenging one.

Always Be Aware Of Distractions

I’ve talked about distractions a few times in this article, and I’m going to do so again. It’s the single most dangerous aspect of using your phone while driving. It only takes a split-second to lose concentration and find yourself in a big accident. Not only will you be at risk, but other drivers are also in danger of suffering a car injury. Don’t let your neglect of road safety be the reason for a potentially devastating collision.

Wait & Pull Over

You know how we said that it’s best to simply not use your phone when driving? This is where we put that rule into place. Even if your phone is ringing multiple times, don’t be tempted to answer it. Wait until it’s safe to pull over and call the person back. There isn’t a friend, family member or employer that should get angry with you for doing this. It’s imperative that safety takes precedence over any conversation. Don’t lose sight of basic safety tips.
